DIRECTING STATEMENT

“I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists
is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit.
I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off.
I reply, ‘The Beatles did.’”
—Kurt Vonnegut

I enjoy experimentation, collaboration, and risk taking. However, this approach does not come at the expense of accessibility, quality, and polish. My aim is to connect with an audience by creating exciting and surprising works touched with intensity and humor. Specific attention is paid to maintaining authentic relationships with which audiences can identify.

The productions I choose to work on are most often a precarious balance between entertainment and critical analysis of our society. My approach is ambitious and resourceful in terms of point of view and design. With my background in visual arts, a standard step in this process is to identify distinctive images to accompany and strengthen the vital themes of a piece.
