ARTIST STATEMENT
Within
my art I strive to create work that engages the shared, cultural conscience
of the audience, and addresses social issues through image, performance
and installation.
Recently,
I have focused on humans relating to each other through the shared experience
of passing time. The passage of time can be scientific, measured out
in grids and numbers, or it can be emotional, relying on
sensations - such as scents or sounds - that take a person to a specific
moment in time. Through my recent works, I juxtapose the scientific
perceptions with the more emotional or sensory perceptions of the time
passing.
Along
similar lines I explore the idea of people making active versus passive
choices to live in the past, present, or future. These ideas can sometimes
be sensitive and controversial. Cultivating social awareness as well
as an individual response from viewers is always an underlying goal
of my works.
